On the three-quarters of green zone in Hong Kong, there are over two thousand species of native plants recorded, some of which are common and some are endemic to Hong Kong. As long as we step out of our homes and walk up the hills, we are able to observe them.

The author likes to study local Flora during hiking trips, taking photos to record the morphology of plants, back home to research by reading Chinese literature and herbal classics. From the ancient "Classic of Mountains and Seas(山海經）" , "The Classic of Poetry：Book of Odes（詩經）" and "Compendium of Materia Medica（本草綱目）", the author searches for the origins of Hong Kong's native plants and tries to introduce their characteristics from scientific, historical and cultural perspectives.

The illustrations in the book are all drawn by the author with delicate and elegant watercolor techniques, outlining the soul of the Hong Kong native plants on paper.
