I Read Laozi in This Way
The first sentence from Laozi's teachings describes how the highest virtue does not actively create things, but rather allows them to arise naturally. This idea is then connected to the concept of "life force," or "qi," which Laozi refers to as "mother." By returning to this source of life force, or "eating the mother," one can return to the path of the Tao.
Laozi uses the metaphor of a mother giving birth to a child to describe how the Tao gives birth to all things. This metaphor is relatable to Laozi's audience and helps them understand the role of the Tao in their lives.
Overall, Laozi's teachings emphasize the importance of returning to the source of life force and living in harmony with the natural world. Through this way of living, one can achieve true happiness and fulfillment.
